His Emminence, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz His Eminence, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz
Founder and Patron
Archbishop of Krakow, Poland

All of us remember October 16, 1978, the day when Cardinal Karol Wojtyla was chosen to become Pope John Paul II. This choice was a great gift for the whole Catholic Church. Also each one of us has been endowed and enriched with the personality and pastoral stewardship of John Paul II.

The radiance of his personality and holiness did not finish on the day of his death, i.e. April 2, 2005. On the contrary, it has become even more intense after his departure to the Eternity.

Today, we would like to commemorate John Paul II the Great. Our desire is to hand down to next generations this very Gift, which we have received. That is the reason why we proceeded to build in Krakow-Lagiewniki the Centre of John Paul II 'Do Not Be Afraid.'

This Centre will be raised in a very special place that is in the beloved city of John Paul II, nearby the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, on the grounds where young Karol Wojtyla used to work during the Second World War as a physical workman.

I dare to appeal to all people of goodwill who want to have their own share in consolidation of the legacy of our great Pope. This project is one that is so close to my heart, and I would like to ask for your support for it, either spiritual or material. Even the smallest contribution will be a considerable help in achieving our aim — the foundation of lasting memorial to our beloved Pope John Paul II.
His Emminence, Cardinal William H. Keeler His Eminence, Cardinal William H. Keeler
Chairman/Treasurer of the Board
Archbishop Emeritus of Baltimore

It is my privilege to serve as Chairman of the Board for Be Not Afraid, Inc., the United States 501 (c) tax-exempt organization, established to honor Pope John Paul II’s memory with a memorial center in Krakow, Poland. I am pleased that this non-profit corporation will assist the Center and also provide for the poorest of the poor.

I was honored to be appointed Archbishop by Pope John Paul II on April 11, 1989, and I served our beloved Holy Father until he departed this earth on April 2, 2005. I have been blessed to serve as President of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (NCCB). During these many years, the Pope was a tremendous source of inspiration, and I humbly followed his example, by working to build interfaith bonds throughout this country and the world.

This is one of the many legacies that Pope John Paul II left for us — his love of humanity, his dedication to spirituality and man’s faith in God. As we remember his vision, we ask for your support to keep his message alive for generations to come and to serve God’s suffering poor.
His Excellency, Archbishop Timothy J. Dolan His Excellency, Archbishop Timothy J. Dolan

Timothy Michael Dolan was named Archbishop of New York by Pope Benedict XVI on February 23, 2009. He was installed as Archbishop of New York on April 15, 2009.

He had served as Archbishop of Milwaukee since he was named by Pope John Paul II on June 25, 2002. He was installed as Milwaukee's 10th archbishop on August 28, 2002, at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, papal nuncio to the United States, installed Archbishop Dolan.

While in Rome, he also served as a visiting professor of Church History at the Pontifical Gregorian University and as a faculty member in the Department of Ecumenical Theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. The work of the Archbishop in the area of seminary education has influenced the life and ministry of a great number of priests of the new millennium.

On June 19, 2001 – the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood – then Fr. Dolan was named the Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis by Pope John Paul II. The new Bishop Dolan chose for his Episcopal motto the profession of faith of St. Peter: Ad Quem Ibimus, "Lord to whom shall we go?" (Jn 6:68).

He is currently the chairman of Catholic Relief Services and a member of the Board of Trustees of The Catholic University of America.

On June 29, 2009, Archbishop Dolan received the pallium, a symbol of his office as an archbishop, from His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, at St. Peter's Basilica.

Ann Brennan - President of the Board Ann Marie Brennan, D.M.
President Emeritus of the Board

Be Not Afraid, Inc. was established to serve in collaboration with the John Paul II Center, in Krakow, Poland. The Center shall promote the witness and teachings of Pope John Paul II to all nations, cultures and people throughout the world. One of the consistent attributes of the Pope's teachings was the Pontiff's emphasis of his understanding of the needs of the poor. This special concern and teaching of Be Not Afraid, Inc. seeks now to manifest the love of God for the poor, in the spirit of our beloved Holy Father, by providing assistance to alleviate suffering and poverty and contribute to the material and spiritual development for God's love of the suffering poor. This especially was unveiled before our very eyes as His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI shared his first encyclical of love and charity during our Audience in the Papal Apartment with the Holy Father.

The Board approved a distribution of all contributions received to be shared for the formation and perpetuity of the Center and also for those in need. These contributions shall be an instrument for promoting the teachings and example of the life of Pope John Paul II at the Center in Krakow, with a special emphasis on charity to the poor for the glory of God.
